What an event!!
The Importance of Project Management in the Construction Industry
In front of an excellent turnout, this joint event organized by a number of stakeholders within the construction industry – especially those directly involved in Gozo – provided those present with the opportunity to know more about how construction projects can be better managed.
The stakeholders from our sister island were the Gozo Business Chamber and the Gozo Regional Authority with the contribution of the nation’s representatives of the managers themselves, the Malta Chamber of Construction Management, the ABK who represented the masons and contractors and the Chamber of Engineers representing the engineering profession.
The idea to involve representatives from the ABK and the CoE was precisely as a demonstration of how overarching the project manager’s role within the construction industry and all that is related to the Built Environment.
Apart from introductory speeches from Michael Galea President of the Gozo Business Chamber, Daniel Borg CEO of the same Chamber, Jurgen Attard from the Gozo Regional Authority (GRDA), Jesmond Chetcuti from the Malta Chamber of Construction Management and later a closing keynote from Mario Borg CEO of the GRDA.
The climax of the event was the panel discussion which involved all the stakeholders’ representatives including Perit Edward Xerri, Ing Malcom Zammit (Chamber of Engineers), Michael Cutajar (ABK) and again Jesmond Chetcuti (MCCM).
There was also time for questions from those presents, with some interesting remarks that are indeed eye-opening and worth taking note if we really believe in upscaling the quality and standards of the Construction industry, both in Malta and also in Gozo.
On behalf of the organizers, I would like to thank also BOV and Barts University for hosting this event at the splendid Queen Mary University Campus in Gozo and the Gozo Chamber team, especially Jesmond Buttigieg and the GRDA team.
Worth noting that this event is ‘’a dream’’ that has been in the making for over two years. Two years of hard work, especially from the Gozo Chamber towards the upscaling of the construction industry and all that is related to the Built Environment in Gozo.
We hope that this ‘’edition’’ is the first of its kind and that such seminars will remain on the Gozitan calendar for the years to come.
I am sure that even more stakeholders will look at this event as a ‘’beacon’’ and will gladly join the existing team to make sure that what the general public deserves materialises.
